Australia’s deadliest day struck with 13 deaths and more than 700 infections reported from Victoria state, mostly from Melbourne. A recent mandate was passed out for face-coverings here.
The total number of deaths stand at 190 now, in the state. Australia prided itself to having contain the infections at an early stage and it was almost virus free at one point. However, with the recent relaxations, the second wave has struck them and there has been a surge in the COVID cases.
Melbourne had announced a lockdown some time back, but it appears to have not been working in their favor. This is a tricky situation. Some believe that there will be more strict containment zones as well lock down measures in place now, that the cases are not stopping.
Morrison, in his statement, said, further restrictions in movement may hamper economy, but steps are needed to stop the spread and this is the only window they have to contain it.
Inviting friends over at home, is not a good idea at this stage, advised Andrews. Strict social distancing rules have been enforced.
